"Nature itself is the best physician"

Hippocrates

What is Walk & Talk Therapy?

Walk and talk therapy, also known as walk and talk counseling or outdoor therapy, is a form of therapy where sessions take place outdoors while walking. Instead of sitting in a traditional therapy office setting, the therapist and client engage in conversation while walking together in a natural environment such as a park, beach, or trail. Mish Lowery, AMFT is a Run Walk Talk® Certified Practitioner.

This type of therapy can offer several benefits:

  1. Physical Activity: Walking releases endorphins and can improve mood, reduce stress, and increase energy levels.
  2. Connection with Nature: Being outdoors in natural surroundings can promote relaxation, reduce anxiety, and increase feelings of well-being.
  3. Movement: Walking side by side can create a sense of equality and openness in the therapeutic relationship. The physical act of walking can also help individuals feel more comfortable and open up more easily.
  4. Change of Environment: Breaking away from the traditional therapy office setting can make therapy feel less clinical and more relaxed, which can be particularly beneficial for clients who may feel intimidated or anxious in traditional therapy settings.
  5. Metaphorical Insights: The natural environment can serve as a source of metaphors and symbols that can be explored in therapy sessions, providing additional layers of insight and meaning.
